Frequently asked questions
Q: What if i have no rugby Experience?
No experience needed! We will teach you everything there is to know.People join throughout our season, so there are always new people learning. Many people join after high school, college, or later. Practices will teach you all you need to know.
Q: AM I TOO OLD TO PLAY?
We have players from 18-40s on our team, we welcome anyone to come give it a try! Many players did not start playing for the first time until they joined this club. It's never to late to try RUGBY!
Q: WHAT BODY TYPE IS BEST FOR RUGBY?
There is no perfect body for rugby. There is a spot on the field for everyone, and different shapes, sizes, and athletic ability give different advantages to positions and games. Rugby is all about body positivity, and it is a great sport to help realize how strong you really are!
Q: What's the team dynamic? I'm nervous I Won't know anyone.
Rugby is all about inclusiveness! Even when we play games, there is a social post-game for both teams, and you will make friends with all your opponents on the field after playing them. Many people on the team started without knowing anyone and have made life-long friends from joining . We will do other activities like socials and volunteer events together as well to continue to grow the community in Bend as well.
Q: WHEN ARE TRYOUTS?
There are no tryouts to be a part of the team! Come to practices and we will get you up to speed and find where you fit best on the field.
Q: DO I NEED ANY EQUIPMENT?
You will need a mouth guard and cleats but you can wear tennis shoes to your first practices. Other teammates can lend you gear like rugby shorts while you decide if rugby is for you (except a mouth guard, you likely want to get one of those as your own!)
Q: HOW COMPETITIVE IS THE TEAM?
We are a DII Women's team playing in the PNRFU union. We play teams across WA, OR, ID. We played competitively and were the PNRFU Champions in 2016 and made the PNRFU playoffs 2017-2019 until COVID. We are rebuilding after not being able to play for these last few years as the union rebuilt. We are hoping to make it back to playoffs again!
We will play 10-11 games a year alternating between travel and home games. Our season runs Aug-Oct for Fall, and Feb-April for Spring, with both half seasons counting towards our playoffs standings for the year. Playoffs are in April or May.
